Bioluminiscent Tour

An unique visual experience

There are few places in the world where you can experience bioluminescence throughout the year. And fortunately for travelers to the Nicoya Peninsula, here is one such place. Bioluminescence is a magical show created by living organisms through a chemical reaction, natural light.

In the gulf, it’s the algae that create this magical effect. When disturbed, the algae emit a burst of light. Since there are millions of them, they look like sparks in the water. The wavelengths are blue to green in the area, and depending on the number of algae, will appear as bluish or greenish flashes.

One of the best ways to see this phenomenon is snorkeling, wearing these masks, you’ll be basically swimming around stars, is a great way to get a good look at it, the fish will move rapidly and look like underwater fireworks as they take off, leaving a trail of “fairy dust” in their wake.

The guide will fully instruct you on the safety and issues of snorkeling at night and teach you all about this biological show while enjoying the relaxing ride.

This tour takes place at Playa Los Vivos, before the light fades away, you’ll be able to navigate spotting wildlife in the mangrove, enjoy a picnic on the beach, and when the bay gets dark enough, you’ll be ready to experience a unique biological show that you’ll remember a lifetime.
